BAT4MED

The BAT4MED project, “Boosting Best Available Techniques in the Mediterranean Partner Countries”, aims to analyse the potential impact of the introduction of the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) concept in the Mediterranean Partner Countries and, more specifically, if this can contribute to minimize the negative impacts associated with polluting industries from key industrial sectors.

To this end, a total of 8 partners (4 coming from EU countries –Spain, Italy and Belgium- and 4 from the Mediterranean Partner Countries –Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco-) are brought together into a coordination action that will enhance networking of high level research. The project’s partners are Andalusian Institute of Technology (IAT), Vision Technology (VITO), Sant'Anna School of University Studies and Improvement (SSSUP) of Pisa, the Regional Activity Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC), the Environment Agency of Egypt (EEAA), the International Centre for Environmental Technologies of Tunis (CITET), the Moroccan Centre for Cleaner Production (CMPP) and the Centre for Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE).

BAT4MED arises to respond to the need of the Mediterranean Partner Countries to design new prevention based environmental control systems that will not affect their necessary economic development. The project partners believe that the previous experience of the European Union, particularly of the EU Mediterranean countries, can be valuable for other countries facing similar issues, thus BAT4MED will build on the existing work in the field of pollution prevention and control in the EU to adapt it to particular conditions in the Mediterranean Partner Countries.
