Workshop on Ecotourism as an Opportunity for Sustainable Development in Boka Kotorska, 30th of Jan – 1st of Feb 2014, Kotor

The main objective of the workshop was to share best practices, obtain a SWOT analysis and define actions and strategies to boost ecotourism. Awareness raising was also given a special place in the scope of the workshop since the evidence for this has been growing, thanks to actions through the substantive efforts in building the institutional, legislative and strategic set up for implementing the ICZM Protocol in Montenegro. The workshop was also developed in such a way as to provide methodology to undertake a project of entrepreneurship on the ecotourism sector, and illustrate it by applying practical examples, which in line helped encourage networking and interaction among participants.

The main stakeholders of the workshop were governmental and local authorities, potential eco-entrepreneurs, NGOs, concerned public, university students/academics. All actively participated in all spheres of the workshop providing the workshop with vast amount of information, knowledge on ecotourism and good practices for both the entrepreneurship and country level practice in this field.

Presentations were carried out by international experts in the field of ecotourism, green economy, marine and coastal ecosystems and pollution reduction. Presentations were concentrated on greening economy in Boka Kotorska, pollution reduction as a precondition for greening economy, development of the master plan for green and blue economy in Boka Kotorska, ecotourism resources, business cases such as land stewardship and steps to eco-entrepreneurship.

Last day of the workshop was reserved for the multi-stakeholder round table meeting to debate on the first results of the “Ecotourism for local development in Boka Kotorska Feasibility study” and other relevant topics related to CAMP Montenegro. The round table was very successful where multi-stakeholders all gave their insight and believes on the future of ecotourism in Boka Kotorska which will all be considered in the feasibility study that will be finalised after the workshop.
