23rd April 2014 | Updated: 24th April 2014

The Mediterranean Initiative of the Global Footprint Network has published the paper “Mounting Debt in a World in Overshoot: An Analysis of the link between the Mediterranean Region’s Economic and Ecological crises” in which it reflects on the economic  implications of the current resource and service overconsumption in the Mediterranean region.

The main conclusion is that, in a world characterized by the existence of biophysical limits, the Mediterranean economies could be in risk due to the concurrence of resource scarcity, increasing resource prices and challenging national economic situations.
