Representatives of the Fondation de la Mer and representatives of the Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC) signed a promising new partnership in November 2021, the main activities of which are about to start.
Through this partnership, the two organizations wish to increase the impact of their respective actions in connection with the Ocean and the blue economy, as well as their actions in support of green entrepreneurship and the development of sustainable business models in the Mediterranean basin.
The Fondation de la Mer recently developed the Ocean Reference Framework, applied to companies to enable them to identify, measure and reduce their environmental impact; as well as an international label, based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 14 (SDG14), dedicated to the preservation of the oceans and seas: the “Ocean Approved Label®”.
Recognizing, promoting and supporting companies acting in favor of the Ocean is at the heart of the SCP/RAC's mission, concretized by the implementation of one of its main programs: "The Switchers Support Programme", which supports the development of green and circular businesses in the Mediterranean through an integrated strategy targeting green entrepreneurs, business support organisations, financial actors and policy makers.
Thanks to this agreement, SCP/RAC and the Fondation de la Mer will develop mutual cooperation in order to promote and deploy the Ocean Reference Framework and the Ocean Approved Label in the Southern Mediterranean countries within the framework of the “Switchers Support Programme”. This will begin in particular with the support of two pilot companies belonging to the Switchers community. The latter will be trained to develop an action and analysis plan based on the Ocean Reference Framework and will be supported in the labeling process if they meet the Ocean Approved criteria.
A green entrepreneur from the SwitchMed program who has finalized his green business plan will also be selected in a second step and then accompanied for the definition of an action and analysis plan based on the repository.
Following these pilot experiences, it is planned to extend the support of the Fondation de la Mer to a larger number of eco-companies from the Switcher community. The partnership also provides for the Fondation de la Mer to participate in the next green entrepreneurship training courses of the Blue Economy component of the SwitchMed program.
"Who will be the Switchers benefiting from the support?
The selection process is underway and the names of the beneficiary companies will be announced very soon. Stay connected and follow @FondationMer and @SCP_RAC on social networks for more information "
