Training on substitution of hazardous chemicals in Cairo

28th March 2012

On 15th February 2012, CP/RAC organized a training on substitution of hazardous chemicals in Cairo (Egypt). Around 25 participants from very diverse areas (i.e. academia, chemical industry, government, etc) attended to the training which started with the presentation of the CPRAC and its activities, and followed with the introduction of the Subsport Portal.

Participants were divided in working groups so they had to go through several exercise on the substitution process, identification of chemicals of high concern, identification and assessment of alternatives, cost assessment, etc.

At the end of the training, participants were asked to fill in an evaluation form in order to know their opinion about different aspects of the training. From the evaluations it can be concluded that participants were satisfied with the thematic of the training, and also with the quality of the trainee and the presentations given. Some of them complained about the length and asked for a 2 days training.

SUBSPORT is an EU LIFE project (2010-2012) intended to provide authorities, industry, trade unions, NGOs and other interested parties with information and tools to facilitate the substitution of hazardous chemicals in products and processes with safer alternatives. Since the objective of the Project lies in line with CPRAC priorities, on December 2011 the centre organized a training under the Subsport Project in Barcelona (Spain).

In view of the successful experience of the training, the CPRAC and the Egypt National Cleaner Production Centre (ENCPC) replicated the same workshop as an activity of the CPRAC Antenna in Egypt.
