The first training, held end of May, was focused on Industrial Waste Water discharges policies. Relevant experts from UNIDO, Catalan Water Agency and Italian ISPRA were invited to share their experience on the implementation of IPPC & IED policies in Mediterranean areas. Participants, around 40 delegates from the Israel Ministry of Environmental Protection, related regulatory agencies as well as business and NGO representatives, also had the opportunity to interact with European Commission (DG Environment) and MEDPOL speakers using on-line video-conference, saving cost and carbon emission by reducing international travels.
The second training, held the 18th and 19th of June, were supporting the development of a national Life Cycle Assessment Roadmap to promote eco-design in Israel. International experts from the Institute for Business & environment from Tel Aviv University, UNEP LCA initiative, University of Bordeaux 1 and UPF-ESCI LCA chair discussed with the +60 participants on how to promote local and national database and data collection to support the development of LCA in the industry.
Both training have been highly positive with a constant and challenging interaction between the trainers and the trainees and showed that Israel is one of the leading Mediterranean country linking environmental protection with green economic competitiveness.
